Designed and developed the JAVA front - end for review and modification of the Geographic and Descriptive Database concerning the Olive and Vineyard Registry of Greece. Working for NAMA Geoinformatics with review of the Ministry of Agriculture. This project required working with Oracle Spatial object-relational GIS format.
This web front end has the form of a JAVA applet and can be accessed and runned via any JAVA capable web browser. It gives the ability to search, show and modify data from the Olive and Vineyard Registry of Greece via an easy to use and safe enviroment. This complete GIS system was created from scratch and is not using any libraries or third-party components. This way, the cost of the application gets significantly reduced.
The key to the success of this project was the correct seperation of server-side and client-side operations in order to gain maximum efficiency and robustness. Most complex GIS operations take place server-side using the extensively tested Oracle Spatial's functions. The JAVA front end manages fast retrieval, buffering and view of spatial data, easy visual editing with snap and undo facilities and the presentation of data with such a way that a non-expert can complete complex operations with just a few clicks. |
